Let’s be honest. Most of us are running on empty, but we keep pushing. Not because we’re strong, but because we’ve forgotten how to stop. You wake up tired. You go to sleep tired. And in between, you’re constantly overthinking, overgiving, and overfunctioning just to feel “enough” for a world that always wants more.

I know this pain intimately. For years, I wore the mask, played the roles, said all the right things, and looked like I had it all together. But on the inside, I was slowly disappearing. What started as being helpful turned into being invisible. What looked like ambition was actually anxiety. And the worst part? I thought it was just me.

So I started digging. I read every book I could find. I spoke with doctors, patients, spiritual teachers, and everyday people who carried wisdom in their stories. I asked questions that didn’t have easy answers. I sat with pain, mine and others’, long enough to start understanding the pattern.

And what I found changed everything.

Why I Wrote This Book

You’re not broken. You’re just tired. And yes, you are tired of carrying what was never yours to hold.

I say that with all my heart, because I’ve been there too.

There was a time when I looked like I had it together… but inside, I was quietly drowning. I was overthinking everything, over-giving in every relationship, over-functioning just to get through the day, and still feeling like I wasn’t enough. It wasn’t just me. I started to notice this everywhere. In my clients. In my friends. In people I met by chance. So many of us walking around silently exhausted, trying to be everything for everyone, and slowly fading in the process.

I spent years looking for answers: reading, listening, sitting with people from all walks of life: doctors, teachers, healers, even strangers who shared their truth with me. Bit by bit, I started to see a pattern… and from that, I began to heal.

This isn’t just a book. It’s the gentle guide I desperately needed when I was trapped in my own loop, doubting my worth, giving too much, staying quiet to keep the peace, and losing myself piece by piece.

I didn’t write this from a place of theory. I wrote it from the trenches. From years of wrestling with exhaustion I couldn’t name, and emotions I didn’t know how to hold. From thousands of hours spent listening – to clients, to strangers, to spiritual teachers, to people in pain and people in healing. From stitching myself back together through every insight, every quiet conversation, every lesson whispered from someone else’s story or my own.

I’m Doctor Stik—The name I write under, but behind it is Anh Nguyen, MD—a former Director at the Institute for Applied Psychology, Psychiatry, and Neuroscience (IPPN), and the author of Release. Return. Reside.

But more than the titles or credentials, I’m someone who’s walked through the same exhaustion, overthinking, and quiet suffering this book speaks to. For years, I lived inside the loop—over-functioning, over-giving, and carrying far more than was ever mine to hold.

I searched everywhere for answers: through medicine, psychology, spirituality, and long conversations with patients, teachers, and strangers from all walks of life. Eventually, I began piecing together a new way of living—one rooted not in pressure, but in presence. Not in performance, but in peace.

Release. Return. Reside. is the book I wish I had back then. It’s a gentle guide drawn from both science and soul, written to meet you where you are and walk beside you through the shift you’re ready for.
